An intense discussion ensued between two chickadees. One would pop into the bird house, then flit out and discuss her findings in rapid-fire chickadese. He would respond in kind, go in and glance around, then sweep out and voice his thoughts. He was clearly the engineer-type, noting wind direction, structure, and load-bearing issues. She concerned herself with safety, warmth, and sunlight (not to mention those pretty flowers painted on the sides). This went on throughout the day as our chickadee pair pondered whether or not my birdhouse would do for the raising of chicks. It was difficult not to imagine their conversation, as animated as they were. Turns out, they constructed a nest inside and successfully raised a happy brood of 3 chicks!

So in anticipation of spring, I offer up my small little painting this Thursday, called “Flowered Birdhouse”.

Bartholomew. A renegade from birth. A rebel. A true son who ousted his dad, Heckle, from the top rung of chicken-dom at Prairie Flats Chicken Ranch in Colorado. Now, it’s hard to imagine the infamous Heckle being ousted, but that’s the story. Apparently, “Bat” (known by his close friends) decided he would, nay, SHOULD treat the ladies better. In his strutting and yodeling (wait…what?) around the chicken ranch, the paparazzi just had to take a photo of his beauty. Yada yada yada, he gets selected for a painting and a post on this here famous blog.

Above is the photo reference for Bat, below, the actual painting. Very scribbly and loose background, with a bit of an outside/pecking-on-the-ground feeling to it.

I knew right away who my best friend was. She was the only one not laughing. Admittedly, it was probably pretty funny. After all, the polyester pants…(Wait. I must describe. Circa 1975, my mom sewed my pants. The left front side a purple panel, the right front side a white panel, reversed in the back, with opposite color back pockets. Ehem…”thanks” Mom) that I wore were completely covered in mud and soaking wet after I fell into the playground puddle. My best friend worried about me and wondered if I was okay. She MAY HAVE covered up a smirk. But she didn’t laugh. That’s friendship. And support.

Friends. “Squash Getting Friendly,” illustrates support and friendship that we can all provide to each other and appreciate in return.  How we can hold one another up and support each other through life. Thanks to my friends, my fans, my family who support me and love me in spite of my weirdness.;) Thank your friends today.

Whoop, Whoop! It’s Thursday again! Continuing on with the Sunflower theme (we are all down with that, right?), here we go! First, though, I have to share a photo of my helper:

Big helper

My cat had to get in on the action. Right when I began to take photos. Thanks. Big help. Real. Big. Help.

Once he had some nibbles, I actually took a photo of the intended object, the painting for this week’s Thursday FB post! Here she goes:

Singing Sunflower 8×8 watercolor on textured gesso watercolor paper

That’s right. “Singing Sunflower” is the perfect name for this flower, because when I snapped the photo for reference, this one was facing the sun and singing her heart out. Well, I heard her anyway.

If you saw this painting in person, you would see how incredibly interesting the textured surface is. Seriously. You should have it in your house. People will be jealous. 😉

Make sure to follow me on Facebook, where this pretty little painting is offered as a bid starting out at $30 today only. Happy Thursday, all!!

Sunflower Season is upon us! Not sure about you, or where you live, but here in Bend, Oregon, sunflowers are showing their sunny faces everywhere you look. Therefore, this week I’m devoting my paintings to their simple beauty.

I started three paintings on my watercolor board all at once. I finished one for Thirty-Dollar Thursday! It turned out wonderful!

I experimented with several background colors and compositions. Here is one:

Sunny Sunflower

Sunny Sunflower, 8×8 watercolor on gessoed paper

During the month of September, I’m offering my Thirty-Dollar Thursday every week…with a twist! This time, I’m changing the format to a bidding process. The amount will start at $30, but if you want it, bid on it. A 12-hour window, 7am to 7pm, on Facebook, will be the platform. The person with the highest bid at 7pm Pacific Time gets the painting. Shipping, if necessary, is extra.

If you want to bid on it, please follow me on Facebook, which is where the bid will take place.  Happy Thursday, everyone!!

You’ve Got Mail. I know, I know. Sleepless in Seattle, right? I’m dating myself here, but if the title fits…And anyway, this is the snail-mail, old-fashioned way of mail-getting!

This little painting is the first of my Mailbox Series, inspired during my trip to Colorado this year. I took SCADS of photos and ended up with some crazy inspiration for paintings that should last through the winter!
