Eastern morning sunlight!

We were able to have our lesson outdoors in the castle courtyard.

Teaching outside, above.

We worked on details such as stone wall patterns.

Stone and brick walls

I did a full painting demo of this castle wall, with a focus point on the door.

A lush first wash was laid in with soft, glowing colors.

First wash

After the first wash dried, I painted details such as stone on the walls, leaves, roofline, and worked on detailing out the door and steps.

Pulling out details

Afterwards, I inked the area, to correct lines and find further details.

Finished

As this was the final working day of the workshop, students were welcome to work on either the above stone wall, finish up any projects they had going, or begin new paintings.

Students could choose to re-create my demo.
Or, students worked on projects they had begun over the course of the week.

After class, students were able to display their week-long projects. What a wonderful moment to realize how much we all we learned. We each discussed our plans of moving forward in our own individual art journeys.

What a wonderful experience we gained this week. Friendships and life-long bonds formed as we enjoyed each and every person’s contribution to the group. Thank you so much to each of you, to your hard work and love of art, and kindness to one another. Thank you to Winslow Art Center for putting this workshop together and attending so well to our needs. Thank you to Castello di Petroia owners and staff for their amazing hospitality and beautiful home.

Hugs to all!

For now, back to Rome to begin the long journey home.

Thank you so much, Ann! It was difficult to leave yesterday. I could have stayed and painted for a whole month!

Profound thoughts? Not so profound? I’d love to hear it!
