Morning greeted us with plenty of rain and cool weather. This meant an inside-painting day.
Today’s focus was color mixing skills. We worked on mixing neutrals, as well as secondary colors such as greens, purples and oranges.
Above, an example of an Italian home using plenty of neutral mixes, with strong secondary color notes.
Greens in the landscape can be particularly challenging.
Above, making greens.
We worked on neutrals. How to mix, how to blend, and how to create luminosity.
Neutrals in castle walls, above.
Although I do not create detailed color charts in my workshops, I do like to have everyone mix color swatches on paper in order to better understand the nuances of color play.
Mixing neutrals involves complimentary colors as well as red, yellow and blue combinations.
We worked the color mixing class into real-life applications using architectural structures as our subject.
This is an example of color mixing in real application, mixing both on the paper and on the palette.
Examples of student work:

Each day after class, we enjoy relaxing and exploring our surroundings before aperitifs. Last night, as we tasted regional wines, the rain momentarily broke, allowing us views of a stunning double rainbow.
Wine tasting in the alcove.Ahhhh the intense beauty of this rainbow! Such a gift!
Profound thoughts? Not so profound? I’d love to hear it!
