Rome! After a long day of travel from the Pacific Northwest, we landed in Rome late Sunday evening September 17, 2023, checking into Hotel Farnese, a beautiful, quaint hotel in a relatively quiet part of Rome. We spent three days in Rome before leaving for Castello di Petroia, in Umbria, where my 7-day watercolor workshop will be held.

We enjoyed our time in Rome walking, shopping, eating, and touring. So beautiful. Oh, and the art stores are fantastic, by the way. Of course, we had to check out several, but my favorite was Poggi art store near Piazza del Popolo. I must return when I have more days. This city takes time to explore.

Walking to the coliseum yesterday. Hot and muggy!

After a couple of days wandering around town, I took time to relax and paint the view from the Hotel Farnese balcony.

Today, traveling to the castle in Umbria to begin the workshop! I am so looking forward to seeing the castle and the castle grounds. This should be a fabulous week!

Follow along as I post our adventures!

For now, Buonanotte (good night). More tomorrow!

Loved Rome…but Umbria is where I left my heart! Can’t wait for more tales of your adventure!
We stayed by the Spanish Steps. Are you going to Gubbio? Or Orvieto?

Rome is fabulous, but I agree with you. I’m much more of a country girl. Umbria is soooo beautiful. Quiet and peaceful, with birds, trees, chickens, cows, and vistas to die for. We went to Gubbio yesterday. Ahhhhhh….could stay there for weeks!!

Looks like the beginning of your latest adventure has been awesome! Love your little painting of the hotel and the photo of your shopping experience!

It has been so lovely! Shopping was fun in Rome. I purchased a linen skirt that I’ve worn already, as well as a couple of scarves…always a necessity when in Italy! As for the painting, after two days of walking Rome streets amid muggy heat, relaxing on a patio while painting a building across the street felt soooo wonderful.
